2010 Statewide Fine Arts Competition

My piece, "Canadian Cowgirl", in the 2010 Statewide Fine Arts Competition .

The Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson, Michigan, is currently exhibiting the 2010 Statewide Fine Arts Competition from January 16 to March 20, 2010.  The museum hosted a very well attended artists' reception on opening day, during which James Freeman's piece, "520 Cups: Here's Looking at You!", was awarded Best In Show.  This and some of James's other work can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesfreemanstudio/  or at http://www.jamesfreemanstudio.com/ .

The sixty pieces by Michigan artists were chosen by exhibition juror, Richard Rubenfeld.  Mr. Rubenfeld did an exceptional job developing a cohesive yet diverse exhibit, which adequately balanced subject-matter and  technique, as well as both abstract and realism.

If you happen to be in the area - or simply are experiencing a little cabin fever - the exhibit is well worth a look.

Dean Rogers of Novi, Michigan,  fellow Colored Pencil Society member, and his engaging portrait titled "Forgiven".

  6. Lynda...

Thanks for the mention. Just wanted to tell you that we absolutely loved your drawing. The detail, workmanship, and artistry are unbelievable.

  7. How amazing and what an honor to be among the best! Your work speaks for itself. The detail of each fold and stitching show the timely attention that you put in to it. Congratulations!

  8. Thanks everyone, for your very kind words. Honestly......at times I feel slightly overwhelmed by the generosity of such talented people. I feel fortunate when juried into an exhibition (it IS sooo subjective, you know - that one just never knows!), and sometimes feel in awe of the company I keep.

Thanks so for stopping in Holly, and I hope your new studio is working wonderfully for you: I am INSANELY jealous, you know!

James, so glad you stopped in and left your flicker site. Since your comment I have also found you online, so will post both in the body of the blog post. Good grief, practically neighbors! Wonderful piece, James.

  10. Lynda~ Congratulations on your work and getting into this exhibition. I use colored pencils with my students to render interiors and furnishings but my skill level is nowhere near your level. I too an inspired and want to push myself harder with the Prismacolors. Isn't this the great thing about blogging?-seeing other artists' works? And getting fired up about making art?!
