Retrieved from the Flat File, and Kudos
This equine piece may look familiar to some of you: it is a drawing I began last summer, with the intention of returning to it prior to now. At the time that I sat it aside I had little more than a somewhat pale grisaille laid in. Over the past few days I have completed a solid base coat, and soon will begin layering in the subtle colors and detail work. The piece is being executed on Uart sanded pastel paper, and unless I crop it (again), the finished image size will be 25" x 16".
Before closing I must give a big shout-out to California artist and good friend, Elizabeth Patterson, CPSA, who at present is having a solo show in Paris, France. The exhibition is being held at the Galerie Louis Carre & Cie. Check out the phenomenal video and show images through the gallery link: unless, unlike me, you are actually able to read french -- then you can enjoy the entire page!
Thanks for stopping in.

I love the subtleness of this Lynda! I've never come across an equine artist who can successfully eminate emotion into the piece! Brava Lynda!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be another beautiful piece Lynda!!! It has so much emotion and aren't you glad you dug it out? Some times it's hard to go back to a piece you started but it's almost always worth it.
ReplyDeleteLove it so far!!
Gemma
You may yet shame me into retrieving some unfinished pieces from the dark crevices of my art dungeon. The task then will be to complete some of them to your high standards. Well done Lynda!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing how this one progresses. I love the softness and feeling of compaionship in this one.
ReplyDeleteChecked out your friends work....speechless (now theres a change)!
Gorgous and to think it is still a work in progress!!! Thanks for the info on Elizabeth's exhibition. I shall check the link. Try Google Translate for converting the text to English. I shall see how far my French skills take me... :-)
ReplyDeleteShouting back at you from France! And thanks for posting the link. So nice to see the progress on this piece. I expect it will reflect your gift to turn little marks on paper into beauty and emotion. Talk soon.....
ReplyDeleteDianna and Gemma.....your comments mean a lot to me, as there is truly not much more I can ask than to have the work convey the emotion I am striving for: thanks so much.....and yes Gemma; I am glad I dug it out!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Peter -- if shaming you is what it takes! hahahaha. Kidding -- I understand how life happens and impacts that which we would like to give more time to......but I always look forward to seeing your progress and paintings; your work is so phenomenal (as well as your writing).
Thanks, Elizabeth: I know you understand what amazing creatures horses are -- socially, emotionally, intellectually, etc. -- you capture the feeling so well in your own work. Yes, E (as I call her) does phenomenal work, doesn't she?.....and so intriguingly different.
Teresa, why, I forgot all about google translate......and BTW, have left a couple comments for you in the not-too-distant past and they are floating around out there in cyberspace somewhere.....but I'll keep trying! Thank you.
E-across-the-pond! My pleasure -- the work and video are so excellent, they beg to be shared. Thanks so much.......tho now that the base coat is in I am over-thinking my old nemesis a bit - COLOR - its not nearly as agonizing as a year ago however, when I consistently whined about the dratted "Dust and Thunder". (Now, wheres my color wheel????)
Dear L, I simply can't wait to get on the phone and hear every last detail of your suffering and anguish....! :)
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha........now THAT is funny, e!
ReplyDeleteStunning already .... I can't wait to see this finished :-)
ReplyDeleteLynda, this is beautiful! I love to soft velvety grays, UArt seems to be the perfect surface. So glad you decided to finish it, I've done the same thing and have some drawings in my studio collecting dust ;-) Kudos to Elizabeth too and thanks for sharing the gallery link!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sue and Kendra. I like the look of the soft greys also, and am going to try to maintain this quality while blending in some brownish-greys, warmer colors on the lit side, and grapes/blues into the cooler shadows.
